I’m excited to introduce a Life With Grief guest that does some INCREDIBLE work—and is unlike any other guest we’ve had on before.
Ashley Spence is a motivational speaker, victim advocate, and founder of DNA Justice Project; a non-profit that focuses on educating the public and policy makers on the value of forensic DNA in the criminal justice system.
When Ashley was a 19-year-old college student, she was the victim of a brutal home invasion and rape that nearly took her life. She never saw her attacker’s face, and it was a cold case for seven years until he was caught through a forensic DNA match.
For Ashley, the levels of grief around this are deep, raw, painful and complex, and we dig into all of this in our conversation.
She now testifies all over the country to support legislation that will maximize the use of forensic DNA and advanced DNA technology, and she has worked globally to spark conversations on how to come together to put an end to sexual violence.
Ashley’s story is truly one of incredible bravery, profound healing, and taking inspired actions.
TRIGGER WARNING: This episode contains discussions about a home invasion and sexual assault.
