In light of the devastating fires in Los Angeles, I couldn’t help but acknowledge this with special episode of the Life With Grief Podcast.

As a Northern Californian who’s no stranger to fires and other natural disasters, this episode is not only about acknowledging the tragedy that continues unfolding and showing love to the thousands upon thousands of people affected, but to address the overwhelming grief, loss, and trauma that come with such natural disasters.

As encouraging as it is to see people coming together to provide relief, I also see a lack of empathy and quick judgments in many cases. It’s more than just losing material items. Things that, on paper, could be easily replaced. It’s livelihoods, communities, schools, homes, sentimental items, and places of comfort that are gone within a matter of hours.

Today is all about the importance of compassion, the need to acknowledge the depth of this tragedy, and understanding how grief like this runs so much deeper than we realize.
